Built for how South African schools actually run

Most independent and private schools in South Africa are still running on a patchwork: attendance registers on paper, marks in Excel spreadsheets, fees in a separate accounting package, and parent communication scattered across WhatsApp groups. Nothing talks to anything else, and the office spends more time re-typing data than using it.

EduX replaces that patchwork with one system. It is not locked to a single country's education model — your phases, grades, subjects, terms, mark weightings and report card layout are configured to match how your school already works, whether you follow the national curriculum, an independent programme, an Islamic studies stream, or a combination of them.

Attendance registers

Mark daily or per-period attendance from a phone in seconds, and notify parents of an absence the same morning.

📊

Marks & report cards

Capture assessment marks, apply your own weightings, and print term report cards in your school's format.

💵

School fees

Track fee schedules, payments, discounts and arrears per learner, and issue statements and receipts the office can rely on.

📱

Parent portal app

Parents see attendance, marks, timetable, fee statements and announcements on iOS and Android — and message the school directly.

📅

Timetabling

Build class and teacher timetables with automatic clash detection instead of juggling a wall planner.

🎓

Online assessments

Question banks, automatic marking and analytics showing where a class or an individual learner is falling behind.

🚌

Transport

Manage bus routes and passenger lists, with pickup and drop-off notifications to parents.

🕌

Arabic & Islamic studies

True right-to-left support so Arabic subjects, names and reports render correctly — plus Hijri alongside Gregorian dates.

🔐

Roles & audit log

Role-based permissions per staff member, encrypted traffic, daily backups and a full audit trail of every change.

A real advantage for Islamic schools and madrasahs

South Africa has a large network of Muslim independent schools, darul ulooms and after-school madrasahs — in Johannesburg, Durban, Cape Town, Lenasia, Laudium and beyond. Most school software sold locally was written in English only, and Arabic text either breaks, reverses, or has to be pasted in as an image.

EduX was built Arabic-first with genuine RTL layout, then extended to English — not the other way round. That means Arabic subject names, teacher names, Quran and Islamic Studies assessments and Arabic report card text all display and print correctly, and the interface itself can be switched per user between English and Arabic. Hijri dates are supported alongside Gregorian ones.

If your school runs a secular curriculum in the morning and an Islamic or Arabic programme in the afternoon, both can live in the same system with their own subjects, staff and reports — instead of two disconnected sets of records.

Why schools choose EduX

  1. No server, no IT department needed — nothing to buy or install, no manual backups, and no technician on call. The system runs in the cloud and backs itself up daily.
  2. Configured to your school, not to a template — grades, phases, terms, subjects, mark structures and report layouts are all set up around your existing policy.
  3. Genuinely bilingual English and Arabic — a real differentiator for Islamic and Arabic-medium schools, and harmless for everyone else.
  4. Everything in one place — attendance, marks, fees, timetable and parent communication stop living in five disconnected tools.
  5. Remote onboarding included — we import your learner data from Excel or CSV and train your staff live online. No travel cost, no waiting for a site visit.
  6. Data protection built in — encrypted connections, role-based access, daily backups and an audit log, supporting the controls your school needs under POPIA.

How we get your school started

  1. Live demo — a short online session where we show the system working and listen to what your school actually needs.
  2. Account setup — we create your school instance and configure phases, grades, subjects and your mark structure.
  3. Data import — learners, classes and staff imported from your existing Excel or CSV files.
  4. Staff training — live online sessions for administrators and teachers, plus a simple guide for parents.
  5. Go live and support — you start the term on the system, with ongoing support over WhatsApp and email.

Frequently asked questions

Does EduX work for South African independent and private schools?

Yes. EduX is configurable rather than fixed to one country's system. Your phases, grades, subjects, terms, mark structures and report card layouts are all set up to match how your school already works, so it fits independent, private and community schools in South Africa.

Is EduX suitable for Islamic schools and madrasahs?

Yes, and this is where EduX is unusually strong. The system is fully bilingual English and Arabic with true right-to-left support, so Arabic and Islamic Studies subjects, teacher names and reports display correctly instead of breaking. It also supports both Gregorian and Hijri dates.

Do we need to install a server at the school?

No. EduX is fully cloud-based. There is no server to buy, no software to install on staff computers, and no manual backups. Staff sign in from any browser on a laptop, tablet or phone, and backups run automatically every day.

How long does setup take and do you visit the school?

Setup is done remotely, so distance is not a problem. We create your school account, import learners and classes from your existing Excel or CSV files, configure your mark and reporting structure, and train your staff over live online sessions. Small and mid-sized schools are usually running within days.

Can parents see attendance, marks and fees?

Yes. Parents get their own portal on iOS and Android where they can see attendance, marks, timetable, fee statements and school announcements, and message the school directly. This cuts down the WhatsApp groups and phone calls the office has to handle.

How is our learner data protected?

All traffic is encrypted, data is stored on cloud servers with daily automated backups, every user has role-based permissions limiting what they can see, and a full audit log records who changed what and when. These controls support the record-keeping and access-control obligations schools have under POPIA.

What does EduX cost for a South African school?

Pricing is based on the number of learners and the modules you need. Contact us for a written quote for your school — setup and staff training are included.
