Who approves nurseries in Nigeria?
Education is a concurrent responsibility, so approval happens state by state. State ministries of education approve private schools, including pre-primary; in Lagos that is the Office of Education Quality Assurance (OEQA), which ordered unregistered private schools to register from 13 January 2025 and states that "registration is mandatory for all private schools".
The National Policy on Education places crèche, nursery and kindergarten within Early Childhood Care and Development Education (ages 0–4). For stand-alone crèches and daycares, the registering ministry (education, social welfare or women's affairs) varies by state — check with your state before opening.
Records that make registration and inspection easier
| Need | In EduX |
|---|---|
| Register of enrolled children | A file per child with documents and family details, exportable as a list |
| Safe pick-up | Authorised-collector list; collector's name and time on every pick-up |
| Health and allergies | Visible to every staff member who opens the file |
| Staff records | Teacher and caregiver files with documents and shifts |
| Parent trust | A daily report with meals, naps and photos, delivered to each family privately |
NGN fees and tax
Nigeria's VAT is 7.5%, and tuition fees and educational materials are exempt under the Nigeria Tax Administration Act 2025. The same Act provides for compulsory e-invoicing, which the revenue service is rolling out starting with large taxpayers. Most fee payments are bank transfers over NIBSS Instant Payments; in EduX, fee and instalment plans are set in NGN, parents get reminders before each due date, and every transfer or card payment is recorded against the family account with a receipt.
Children's data and the NDPA
The Nigeria Data Protection Act 2023 is enforced by the Nigeria Data Protection Commission (NDPC). In EduX a teacher sees only her group, a parent only their child, and photos reach the child's family rather than a shared group chat.
What EduX runs day to day in Nigeria
The core is the same everywhere; the setup is tuned to your nursery in Nigeria: currency, app language, age groups and working days.
- Child profile: family details, documents, allergies and medication visible to every teacher who opens the file, and a list of the adults authorised to collect the child.
- Drop-off and pick-up: time in, time out and the name of whoever collected the child, with an instant notification to parents.
- Daily report: meals and how much was eaten, naps, activities and photos in the parent app (iOS and Android).
- Fees: instalment plans, automatic reminders before the due date, receipts and a statement per family.
- Staff: teacher and caregiver files, shifts and role-based permissions.
- Branches: for nursery groups, occupancy and collections per branch on one dashboard.
Full module details are on the nursery management system overview.
